WittKieffer is proud to partner with Virginia Mennonite Retirement Community (VMRC) in the search for its next Chief Human Resources Officer (CHRO). This is an exceptional opportunity for a strategic, collaborative, and mission-driven human resources executive to join a highly respected, Christ-centered senior living organization committed to compassion, integrity, belonging, and collaboration while supporting older adults in living fully and aging well.
VMRC is a faith-based organization deeply committed to its Christian Mission of cultivating compassion, integrity, and respect for aging well and living fully. Rooted in Anabaptist traditions of stewardship, service, justice, and compassion, VMRC welcomes people of all faiths, backgrounds, and beliefs. With $34 million in operating revenues and $107 million in assets, VMRC provides independent living, assisted living, nursing, and memory care services to more than 750 residents and is supported by a dedicated workforce of more than 400 team members.
Reporting directly to the Chief Executive Officer, the CHRO will serve as a senior leader and trusted advisor, providing strategic and operational leadership for VMRC’s human resources function. The CHRO will develop and execute a comprehensive human resources strategy aligned with the organization’s mission and strategic priorities, with particular emphasis on talent acquisition and retention, onboarding, employee engagement, performance management, succession planning, learning and development, compensation and benefits, and inclusion and belonging.
A key priority for the CHRO will be to strengthen VMRC’s position as an employer of choice. This leader will assess existing human resources structures, programs, technology, and processes; establish consistent, integrated practices; and develop workforce metrics and dashboards to support informed decision-making. Working closely with operational and clinical leaders, the CHRO will develop innovative workforce strategies that address evolving staffing needs and support a strong, sustainable workforce. The CHRO will also lead and develop the human resources team while fostering an accessible, responsive, and customer-service-oriented business partnership model throughout the organization.
The ideal candidate will bring progressive human resources leadership experience and a demonstrated record of leading a contemporary, high-performing HR function. Experience within senior living, healthcare, hospitality, or another service-oriented environment is strongly desired. Successful candidates will combine strategic perspective and operational effectiveness with strong communication skills, technological fluency, analytical capability, and sound business judgment. An approachable, visible, and values-driven leadership style will be essential, as will the ability to cultivate trusted relationships, strengthen leadership and career development, and advance performance management practices that foster accountability and high-performing teams. Above all, the CHRO will embrace VMRC’s mission and values and contribute meaningfully to a culture centered on service, collaboration, and belonging.
